Professor's groundbreaking work results in prestigious $121,000 innovation grant

A University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) professor has been awarded UOIT's first-ever Idea to Innovation grant, a prestigious and competitive award that will allow Dr. Ed Waller to further advance a radiological triage mask he has developed that holds great potential for being able to quickly identify the victims of radiological dispersal devices, also known as dirty bombs.

UOIT students revving up to convert GM-donated vehicle into the green car of the future

Members of the media are invited to join University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) EcoCAR student team members next week as they present their plans to convert a General Motors-donated 2009 vehicle into a fully electric model. The conversion is the second phase of the students' participation in the EcoCAR: The NeXt Challenge competition, which is comprised of 17 North American universities. UOIT is one of only three Canadian universities selected to compete.

Provincial government announces $222,091 in funding for UOIT researchers

The provincial government has announced it is investing $222,091 in four research projects at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT). The funds are being made available through the Ontario Research Fund-Research Infrastructure program, which is targeting top researchers and their projects.

UOIT partners on water quality research project to determine at-risk lakes in The Land Between

The University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) has partnered with the Couchiching Conservancy, Lakehead University and The Land Between on a research project that is investigating the water quality in The Land Between, a unique 240 km ecotone stretched across south-central Ontario from Georgian Bay to Kingston, and determining lakes that are at risk of becoming damaged. The group was recently awarded a $25,000 grant as part of the RBC Blue Water Leadership project.

Local unions donate $200,000 to support UOIT growth

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 894 and United Association Local 463 Plumbers, Steamfitters, Welders and Apprentices (UA Local 463) announced today that they are each making a $100,000 donation to the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT), significant gifts by both given the current economic climate.

As part of a shared commitment to creating educational pathways that enable students to obtain both a college diploma and a university degree in less than the traditional amount of time, the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT), Durham College and Georgian College have partnered together to create a new articulation agreement that will enable Practical Nursing graduates to obtain a UOIT Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) degree in only three years if studying on a full-time basis and within five years if studying part-time.

Chairman's Charity Classic raises $354,000

Thanks to the generosity of sponsors, donors, volunteers and 240 golfers, $354,000 was raised at the 13th annual Durham Region Chairman's Charity Classic on June11. On the heels of the announcement that the federal and provincial governments are investing $73.4 million in the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) to deliver additional features to ACE-Global and build a 100,000-square-foot Energy Systems and Nuclear Science Research Centre, the university today announced it is seeing a 15.9-per cent increase in the number of students confirming UOIT as their post-secondary home for the 2009-2010 academic year.
