For the first time in its 13-year history, the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) is celebrating a provincial sports championship.

The UOIT Ridgebacks women’s soccer team capped off a remarkable Ontario University Athletics (OUA) season on November 6 by capturing the gold medal at the OUA Championships in London, Ontario.

The Ridgebacks earned the title of Ontario champion with a 1-0 win over the Queen’s Gaels. The win over the defending OUA champs followed the Ridgebacks’ 3-1 semi-final victory on November 4 over the Windsor Lancers.

The Ridgebacks, who also won the OUA East Division regular-season crown, advance as the top Ontario seed to the U Sports (formerly Canadian Interuniversity Sport) national championship November 10 to 13 at Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia.
