The University of Ontario Institute of Technology congratulates 2014 honorary degree recipient Dr. Ilse Treurnicht (Doctor of Laws, honoris causa) on being named to the Order of Ontario, the province’s highest honour.

Dr. Treurnicht, of Toronto, will receive her appointment from Her Honour the Honourable Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell (also a University of Ontario Institute of Technology honorary degree recipient, in 2013) during an investiture ceremony at Queen's Park on Tuesday, February 27.

The CEO and advocate for women and innovation has helped build the MaRS Discovery District in Toronto into the world's largest–and Canada's leading–innovation hub. One of Canada's first female CEOs of a venture capital fund, Dr. Treurnicht’s leadership promotes measures to improve economic and social prosperity, and to help break the glass ceiling for other women.

The Order of Ontario recognizes individuals whose exceptional achievement in their field have left a lasting legacy in the province, in Canada and beyond. Order members come from all walks of life, represent diverse professions and have played an important role in shaping our province.
