Two Ridgebacks varsity programs vault into the top five in national rankings

For the first time the university’s history, two athletic programs at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology are listed simultaneously in the top five of the weekly Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) rankings (October 18 rankings).

Women’s soccer ranked #3 in CIS

The Ridgebacks women’s soccer team jumped five places in the past week to #3 in Canada following road victories in Kingston over Queen’s and Royal Military College. The wins clinched UOIT’s first-ever first-place finish in the East Division of Ontario University Athletics (OUA). The team concludes its regular season this weekend in Peterborough against the Trent Excalibur.

Men’s hockey team ranked #5 in CIS

After making the CIS Top Ten last week for the very first time in program history, the men’s hockey team rose four places to #5. The Ridgebacks opened the season with two road wins at Ottawa and McGill before posting overtime wins at home last weekend over Nipissing and Laurentian.

“Our university continues to climb and show our strength on the national stage,” says says Scott Barker, Manager, Intercollegiate Athletics. “The players and coaches are thrilled and are now motivated more than ever to continue their great seasons.”
